A wordmark is a distinct text-only typographic treatment of the name of a company, institution, or product name used for identification and branding.

Part One

Using the supplied Generative Matrix Guide, develop four (4) different word pairs using only two (2) words to develop a 2-word name.

Design four (4) separate and unique wordmarks.
Select only one type classification per wordmark.

Wordmark #1 = Sans Serif Font
Workmark #2 = Serif Font
Wordmark #3 = Script Font
Wordmark #4 = Handwritten* or Cursive Font

Categories: Choose four (4) categories from the list below and use the Generative Matrix for each category to develop potential word pairs for your wordmark.

• Health
• Manufacturing
• Food
• Outdoor
• Sports
• Environmental
• Religious
• Toys
• Educational

Your wordmark will be a subset under the category you choose and can be a product, a name of a company or a name of a service. Using word pairs from your matrix, generate logo designs

• Each wordmark must be a different category and a different type family.
• Choose the type style that best reflects the category.
• You can use color in your wordmark.
• Develop as many iterations of your wordmark in one (1) Illustrator document when you are first working up your concepts.
• Choose the strongest execution of each mark for your final wordmarks


Document Size: 11”x 8.5” Landscape Format with .25″ bleeds

• Put your wordmarks in one (1) illustrator document with 4 Artboards.
• Name your document: Lastname_Wordmarks_Concepts.ai
• Arrange each wordmark on one (1) artboard. Make the wordmark as large as possible to fit the page.
Remember to convert any strokes to outlines!

Follow the directions for making a print-ready document from the handout. The Illlustrator PDF will have TRIM MARKS on them. Save the PDF into your project folder.

• Submit the PDF AND your the native .AI file to Google Classroom.


Part 2

After the Wordmark review, if you have any changes or corrections, update your file and re-create another PDF.
You will be using the PDF from your Illustrator file to into the In-Design Wordmark Template.
