Client: OSB Sisters of Mount St. Scholastica

Below is the information from the sisters that details some of their products that need labels and branding.

Background

Note from the client: The main label size we use is 2″ x 4″ Avery 5163. These work on the vinegars, large honey and biscotti. We’ve used a smaller 1.25 x 2 3/8 on the small honey but it’s not a great fit and I’d like to get something for the jelly but they show up in all manner of jars. Some handmade articles also have simple hangtags.

This is the current logo for their honey that appears on all the honey labels.
It needs to be redesigned for this project.

This is the official Mount St. Scholastica Logo
We need to use this logo on all the packaging.

Their Pantone color is: PMS 660
Process Conversion: C76 / M47 / Y0 / K0
RGB: R67 / G123 / B191
Hexidecimal: 3D7CCA

Their Font is GARAMOND (however I have to make sure we have the correct version as the Adobe version on the cloud may be different. I doesn’t match the logo font.) – I will check with Sister on that.

Brainstorming Session #1

Things to Consider:

  • Label Shapes
  • Label Sizes
  • Can there be any Common Sizes?
  • Mount St. Scholastica Logo needs to be on labels
  • New Logo Design for the OSB’s Honey Labels

Questions for the Client:

Q: Regarding Mail Orders?
A: We mail, but only on a limited basis because, obviously, we have limited stock.
Q: Are the vinegar bottles clear or amber — or both?
A:
 Clear
Q: Are there different flavors of vinegar?
A:  – “Special OPS” (which is Onion, Parsley and Sage)
      –  Honey Basil
Q: Do you also sell olive oil?
A:
No, although we’re considering
Q: Can you provide a list of different Biscotti Flavors?
A: Right now, there are 4:
  1. Almond Apricot
  2. Butter Pecan
  3. Lemon Poppyseed
  4. Orange Cranberry Walnut
Q:  There was a large circle label in the package you gave me, but it wasn’t die-cut out,
Do you have to hand cut that circle out from the label?
A: Sometimes we’ve left it rectangular, sometimes we cut out the circle to fit the tin,
none of which is ideal, but we don’t have any round labels right now.
Q What is the specific Garamond you are using?
A: It’s called Adobe Garamond Italic Alternate
Q What is the name of the font that you are using for your M.M.S. text?
A: It’s Engraver’s Old English, but we’re not devoted to it in any way.

ALMOND APRICOT: Ingredients: wheat flour, sugar, butter, eggs, baking powder, almonds, dried apricots and almond flavoring

Graphic Design 2 – Spring 2021
Each student is working on their own branding designs for labels.
Note: I inadvertently had my camera set to special effect, so my class has that glamour glow thing going on!

Prototype Templates

Created in Photoshop from photos of actual samples supplied by the Benedictine Sisters for this project. The prototypes show several samples of what size labels will work on each product and have dummied in blank labels for the student to impose their actual design on and use in their presentations.
